Eternal Jackpot

from Verbal Tan by John Ralston

/

about

Andrew McAusland and I sat down together in the main room of my house (with the big old open wooden ceilings) and played this together. One take, no overdubs. Just a couple of guys playing and singing. Originally intended to be on the Invisible Music record we released in 2012, so I think this was probably recorded in late 2011.

lyrics

I got blessed with the Eternal Jackpot
I've been winning so long
I forgot what losing felt like, so I put it in this song
(This won't take long)

Good goddamn this Eternal Jackpot
I win it every night
I put on my fair face, my powdered hairpiece and I watch my river turn to rice
Yeah that's right (you heard me right)

I was born like a sweatshop, baby, 1979
I got tired of looking up, so I fell a little ways behind
But I don't mind
