Dangerous TIme

from Verbal Tan by John Ralston

/

about

This was recorded into a tape machine that Greg Lovell and I found in Goodwill. I think I was messing with the Sound-on-Sound because the delay is pretty cool in this one. Just a one take live recording, not sure of the year (maybe '08?). Forgot this even existed. I think originally I was going to write an album about a boy who grew an antenna out from up top of his head.

lyrics

Mom I want a haircut
I know I just had one
But this thing keeps growing back
And no one else has one
I’ll go swimming with the sharks
Just when it gets dark
It’s a dangerous time for a boy with a mind and a hook and a line and a heart

Mom please slow the car down
The pills he gives me make me drown
And I can’t keep my head up
When all the gears get rusted shut
I’ll go swimming with the sharks
Just when it gets dark
It’s a dangerous time for a boy with a mind and a hook and a line and a heart

But if I hide the pills under my tongue
Will you notice then?
I don’t think you will
